I do not have anything bad to say about this book. The only downside is that the book is not big enough and I wish it were longer. Dear Reader by Cathy Rentzenbrink made me feel comforted and at home. It made me feel like I could read anything no matter how big or small, silly or serious. As I got close to the end, I found myself wanting to slowdown so I could enjoy the story more but at the same time I was dying to know what the next chapter was going to be about and what books Cathy recommends.
As a reader myself, it felt good to find out that others had the same opinions on books that I had read and loved. My favourite part was when Cathy wrote “Everyone said D. H. Lawrence was sexy, but I thought the sex bits in Lady Chatterley’s Lover were weird”. That quote explained entirely how I felt when I read Lady Chatterley's Lover.
Because of Dear Reader, I have now added more books to my Waterstones Wishlist and there was already a lot of books on there.
Cathy's story gave me an insight on what it is like t be a reader, a bookseller, an author and a reviewer. The book also helped me understand that it's ok and healthy to use books as a lifeline when life gets tough. I always thought that maybe I read too much when life got me down but now, I realise that it's perfectly ok to do that.
Like I said, this book has made me realise and remember a lot of things about myself that I hadn't thought about in years and at the same time recommended me books from genres I had not even thought of.
I will be forever grateful that I bought this book and I couldn't recommend it enough.
